The City That Care Forgot
Immortal Pirate Hiding in the Shadow of His Own Legacy
The owner/operator of Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop is a jovial, keenly intelligent fellow who bears a bit of a resemblance to the portraits hanging on the wall, likely by design. He calls himself John with a wry smile, playing off the legendary pirate’s name.
John is a fresh face in New Orleans, having bought the abandoned building and refurbished it into a café that most certainly does not brazenly serve alcohol in defiance of Prohibition. If questioned about it, John would simply shrug and explain that pirates didn’t worry too much on the law of the land.
